Whose rights are most important?

The internationally renowned ethicist has said she is in favour of gay rights, but against same-sex marriage. She argues a child's right to have both a mother and father trumps the rights of potential gay parents.

Does being gay make you a bad parent? Does it really adversely affect children not to have both a mother and a father? Could two loving same-sex parents be just as good?

I would say those questions are more important than "Whose rights are most important?" since that question could be irrelevant based on the answers to the other questions.
