I have yet to watch an episode of this show but thanks to Nathan I came upon this clip of the show where the Hills are looking for a new church. Kinda interesting stuff as it coincides with the class I am teaching in some curious ways.
Warning: the clip is a little crude and irreverent around the edges but I think it highlights some important issues about church. (The clip takes a while to download so have patience)

hmmm maybe i should watch
did you know there was a guy who wrote a whole book on how the Simpson have all these clever references to God and Christianity. i have that book if you're interested...
Is it bad if I didn't really find the clip crude?
I must be one of the few people who likes watching 'King of the Hill'. I think the show is hilarious, especially after living in Texas and meeting people who are like the characters.
Speaking of the Simpson's and religion, Ned Flanders was modeled after a YWAM speaker, Dean Sherman. If I remember correctly, Matt Groening lived a couple doors down from Dean.
Here's a link to a small photo of Mr. Sherman.
I really gotta give credit where credit is due. I got the clip from Mark Oestreicher's blog. Is it a bad thing that I love Simpson’s and King of the Hill? I mean sure they get a little crude, and my wife makes me change the channel whenever they start making cracks about God, but there is something that draws me to how they interpret Christianity and Jesus. Have you ever heard the phrase, "You are the only Jesus some people will ever meet." Well if King of the Hill and Simpsons are the Jesus they've been seeing, then I think we might have a problem.
I guess I don't really think that the clip is crude - maybe a little sacreligious - but to me it seems more like a cunning way of using sarcasm to drive home a point. I wonder if some of the other readers of this blog might find the clip offense in some ways.
LOL that pic of Sherman is too much
Nathan, good take on the if this is the only Jesus thing...
I think I'm pretty okay if people reject the 'Jesus' that this clip is poking fun at.
