hmmm, we'll here's my thoughts Dale. I think that the xxxChurch is addressing a very real problem that makes many people and churches for that matter squirm. Sometimes it seems we as a church only address problems/issues that we choose to and avoid the more risky and "gasp, he said what" issues. And as a consequence we kinda miss out in being "real." Jesus asks us to love each other and gather the lost sheep right? It seems that's all these guys at triple X are doing. But I'm not too sure about putting a cover on top of the bible...it kinda makes the bible look like some type of novel and a little diffcult for someone to see that its actually a bible.

i think you hit the mark pretty good buddy.
Is xxxchurch just trying to make an controversial statement or are they really interested in getting bible's into porn stars hands? hmmm good question...

...a very good question, hopefully not just a publicity stunt.

I re-edited my comment

We already put a ton of different covers on the bible. I've seen bibles directly marketed towards teen males, towards mothers, ....... It's all marketing. All churches also do some sort of marketing (although we don't call it that).

I would have never thought to come up with such a cover myself, but I don't necessarily disagree with it. Is it marketing? Absolutely. I think the XXX Church is doing an incredible job at being culturally relevant to a distant sect of our society. Missionaries have always made use of culturally relevant marketing materials (tracts, handouts, etc). Why is this a problem now? Is it because it is a cover on the bible, or is it because the words Jesus and porn star shouldn't ever be used in the same sentence? In my mind, if it gets them to open the book, it's a good thing.

The message inside hasn't changed for quite a few years, you know - but the packaging has. Maybe you're still reading the bible in a scroll - I'm not.

i can see what you are saying jesse
i think that is what is interesting for me in this whole debate - - marketing
is marketing good for Christian? is it bad? i could see an arguement on either side of this coin actually? does marketing cheapen the truth inside (i mean make truth just a product to 'buy') or does it (like you suggested) make truth more accessible for people?
i certainly don't think that the cover necessarily bothers God that much. but i do wonder about how we interact with other parts of our Christian family for whom this might be a tough pill to swallow.
i don't read scrolls anymore
i find i spill my coffee on them too much...
